Bolz'n is a very fucking promising technical grindcore band from berlin. talking about majorly intense and frantic grind with wildly chaotic drumming that barely seems to follow the same beat as the guitars, which are ultra fast and a little noisy, but also super detuned for added heaviness. Also in place are layered screaming/growling female vocals (some of the best I've ever heard), crazy technical riffs with plenty of blasting speeds, and lots of weird chord phrasings and rhythmic patterns that really fuck with the structures and make for an odd listen. you ve been warned, do not listen to them while your neighbors are at home! Bolz'n have toured Europe this year. Be prepared for their upcoming split 12" with A FINE BOAT THAT COFFIN in spring 2007! if you get to know they are touring in your neighborhood, do not miss them out, they are outstanding and intense as no other band live.

REVIEWS

"Wow, this is some very fucking promising grindcore out of Germany. I'm talking majorly intense and frantic grind with wildly chaotic drumming that barely seems to follow the same beat as the guitars, which are ultra fast and a little noisy, but also super detuned for added heaviness. Also in place are layered screaming/growling female vocals (some of the best I've ever heard), crazy technical riffs with plenty of blasting speeds, and lots of weird chord phrasings and rhythmic patterns that really fuck with the structures and make for an odd listen. "Schmauchspuren" opens up a bit slower and more graspable than the opener, though still pretty noisy and all over the place rhythmically, allowing some dissonance to seep out into the open when the pace slows to a crawl. "Druckwelle" then follows suit by opening with a slower and more tangible riff that has a really fucked up sense of thick dissonance and unusual time signatures; but "Totstellen" and closer "Hektopascal" are both pretty fucking frenzied through and through. The recording is pretty heavy and sounds good, but my only complaint is that for music that's this nuts it needs to be as clear as humanly possible to let all of the intricate nuances come across, and I feel like some detail gets lost in the shuffle. Drums and vocals are often somewhat central, while the guitars can get really clouded during the more frenetic arrangements. All of the tones are very fucking nice, and the performances are dead on as well, but I'd probably flip out if I got to hear this stuff with a crystal clear mix. The sleeve is all done in black and white with chaotic layers of text all over the place, but it looks really nice. All of the content is in German, so I have no idea what the ideas behind the songs are, but I would be curious to know since the music is pretty atypical. For a ballpark idea of what this sounds like, imagine taking Gorguts' "Obscura" and speeding it up significantly, then combining that with Napalm Death circa "Scum", Brutal Truth, and early Phobia - all with a modern sound in regards to dense heaviness. The songwriting is definitely fucked up and certainly not easy listening, but they handle things well and I'm very intrigued by the end result. Look out for 'em."
